PE recyclate (rPE) as a material

The designation PE recyclate refers to recycled polyethylene that is 100% recyclable. In Germany, PP, HDPE and LDPE account for about 45% of the processed plastics, which gives polyethylene great potential for a more environmentally friendly future. Although the share of recycled LDPE products is currently still low, there are advances in the recycling of lighter plastics. On the market there are already flexible recycled LDPE products such as lids, milk cartons, clothing and carpets available.

In comparison, recycled HDPE looks better because the properties are very similar to those of newly manufactured HDPE and it can be processed into bottles with identical properties without any problems.

Both recycled LDPE and recycled HDPE can exhibit food-grade properties, and through the use of stabilizers the UV sensitivity can even be adjusted. This opens bright prospects for a more environmentally friendly range of materials. PE recyclate finds application in various areas such as food packaging and other areas where polyethylene is used. The growing supply of recycled polyethylene enables more sustainable use of resources and contributes to a greener environment.

PE Recyclate - Questions & Answers

PE recyclate is recycled polyethylene that is obtained from used plastic waste and reprocessed. This creates a sustainable raw material that has the same functional properties as conventional PE, but is significantly more resource-efficient.

PE recyclate is suitable for many industries—from chemicals and construction to cleaning and technology to pet supplies. It is not generally approved for direct food contact, but it is a sustainable alternative in all other areas.

Visually, recycled PE may have slight color differences or a less uniform surface. Functionally, however, it is just as stable, chemically resistant, and durable as virgin PE.

Yes, PE recyclate can also be recycled again after use. This means it contributes twice to the circular economy: once through its origin and again through its recyclability.

By using PE recyclate, you are focusing on sustainability, reducing the carbon footprint of your packaging, and positioning yourself as a responsible company—without compromising on quality and functionality.
