ESG and Resource-Related Measures at Berlin Packaging | Rixius
Berlin Packaging Rixius GmbH at the Mannheim site addresses selected ESG and resource-related topics that are relevant to our business activities as a packaging specialist. These include, among others, material selection, packaging circularity, procurement, operational processes, emissions data and regulatory requirements.
Our concept comprises eight central fields of action and serves to record measures in a structured way, review them regularly and further develop them on the basis of available data. In doing so, we take into account internal responsibilities, current regulatory developments and the requirements of our customers.
The aim is to provide relevant information on materials, recycling-related properties, procurement and selected initiatives in a transparent and comprehensible way. With this, we aim to support packaging decisions based on specific product and material data.
Our approach is guided by selected national and international frameworks as well as by the requirements relevant to Rixius. The concrete implementation takes place step by step and is reviewed regularly.
Communication and Transparency
We want to make our communication on ESG, material and resource-related topics consistent, transparent and verifiable. This includes clearly limiting environmental claims and using them only where corresponding information or evidence is available.
Product Portfolio and Material Properties
We review and expand our range of products with selected material properties, such as recycled content, bio-based material content or recycling-related properties. The specific characteristics depend on the respective item, the relevant product component and the available evidence.
Take-Back and Recycling Processes
We aim to collect suitable plastic packaging from defined collection streams and hand it over to a recycling partner for further processing. Whether and to what extent regranulate for new applications can be produced from this depends, among other things, on material type, sorting, cleanliness and technical requirements.
Transportation
We review transport packaging with regard to material use, availability, functionality and existing evidence. Changes are assessed in relation to the respective product and process. Where certificates or supporting documents are available for individual transport packaging, these are specified clearly and with their respective scope.
Suppliers and Labor Standards
We take selected social and governance-related criteria into account in supplier relationships, including decent work, fair labour standards and transparent supplier information. The specific assessment depends on the availability, relevance and scope of the information provided.
Emissions Data and Reduction Potential
We record and assess direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions within defined system boundaries. On this basis, potential reduction opportunities in operational processes, procurement and logistics can be identified. Climate-related information refers to the specified calculation scope, period and standard in each case.

In the Governance area, the focus is on clear responsibilities, transparent processes, quality management, regulatory requirements and consistent communication. This also includes regularly reviewing environmental information and adapting it where necessary to new legal or technical requirements.

In the Social area, we take selected social criteria into account in our collaboration with suppliers, employees and other business partners. These include, among other things, fair labour standards, internal development, knowledge transfer and measures for employee retention and recruitment.
